OUR STORY

Why we started Skogène

How a question about where luxury bags are really made became a company.

WHERE IT STARTED

Where it started

We did not set out to build a luxury brand. We set out to answer a question that no one in the industry seemed willing to answer: where is this actually made, and who made it?

The value is not in a logo. It is in proof.

My wife Tara and I got frustrated watching luxury brands charge thousands of dollars for bags made in overseas factories by anonymous workers, then slap a logo on them and call it craftsmanship. We wanted to build what luxury was supposed to be: real materials, real people, real transparency. We wanted you to be able to look inside your bag and see the name of the family who made it. We wanted you to see photos of the actual cow whose leather became your bag. We wanted every single piece of the supply chain to be American. Not "designed in America" or "assembled in America," but genuinely, verifiably all American. And we wanted the bags to tell a story that grows over time, not just sit in a closet losing value.

That is Skogène. The first fully American luxury leather house.

Our mission

To build the first luxury brand where every bag is a living artifact. Made entirely from American materials, crafted by American artisan families, and documented from ranch to owner so that each piece carries a story no other brand can tell.

What we believe in

01

Provenance.

Every bag has a documented life from ranch to owner. Real Polaroid photographs taken at four stages: the ranch, the tannery, the workshop, and the final inspection. We do not ask you to trust a label. We give you proof you can hold in your hands.

02

Artisan identity.

The makers are part of the product. Artisan families sign each piece they create. Their workshops are photographed. Their names travel with the bag for its entire life. When you know the person who stitched your bag, the relationship between maker and owner changes.

03

Fully American.

Not assembled in America. Not designed in America. Genuinely all American, down to the thread, the rivets, and the hide. Each bag is branded with the state where its materials were sourced and where it was built. This is not a marketing claim. It is a verifiable fact.

04

Living artifacts.

These bags do not depreciate. They appreciate. Through a digital provenance portal, each bag’s journey continues long after it leaves the workshop. Every year, every trip, every owner adds to its story. The bag grows more valuable with time, not less.

05

Beautiful imperfection.

Natural scars, marks, and variations in the leather are not defects. They are features. No two hides are alike, which means no two bags are alike, even in the same style. We celebrate what other brands sand away.

Our values

Transparency over mystique.

Where luxury brands hide their supply chains, Skogène opens the workshop doors. You see where your leather came from, who tanned it, and who stitched it.

People before product.

The artisan family matters as much as the bag. Their names, their craft, and their legacy are part of every piece we make.

Honesty over perfection.

Imperfections in the leather are features, not flaws. Limitations are disclosed, not hidden. We tell you what we cannot do as readily as what we can.

Time adds value.

Every year, every trip, every owner makes a bag more valuable, not less. Our bags are built to grow in meaning.

American, genuinely.

No shortcuts, no asterisks, no fine print. When we say American, we mean every material, every hand, every step.
